If you were forced, at gunpoint, to submit your five novel nominations for the Hugo Awards now, which five novels would you pick?

2312 by KSR, Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway, Sea Hearts by Margo
Lanagan, Intrusion by Ken MacLeod, and, er, 2312 again.

I... er,.. I don't appear to have read anything from 2012 as yet. Sorry.

Like the new-look LJ, by the way (normally read by RSS) - how long since you changed its style?

Er, not too long – it would have been at around the same time I created [livejournal.com profile] john_links, I think? Three weeks ago, perhaps. I had to reacquaint myself with the LiveJournal style systems to get it working how I wanted it to, though!

Would you *please* put the gun away?

I'm don't have 5 legit candidates and I'm not sure all these are considered Sci Fi (I guess Fantasy qualifies for Hugo):
1) Reamde (Not sci-fi, but Neil Stephenson wrote it so it should get past the guards :)
2) The Magicians (Lev Grossman)
3) Ready Player One (Earnest Cline, stretching SciFi a bit claiming this one)
4) Fahrenheit 451 (Dude died, give it a pass-- oh wait, it already won!)
5) Feed (Seanan McGuire, an actual nominee for 2012- and I had that on my list before I checked the real nominee list)

I know, most of my list wasn't published in 2012. But with all that gun waving can you please forgive a guy? I figured this was better than no reply at all.

Enjoy!

I've actually read 2, 3 and 5 on that list already (and thoroughly enjoyed them). I've heard I should read Reamde and Fahrenheit 451 but haven't got to either yet, unfortunately. Perhaps I will suggest the latter to my book club!
