Acronyms

I've just noticed something really strange about my acronym usage whilst sending a text message. I've been annoyed with my iPhone for a while now, because it autocorrects 'atm' (at the moment) to 'ATM' (Automated Teller Machine). This is all very well and good, but I've only just noticed I always capitalise IIRC. As such, I believe a poll is required to see whether I am alone – for the purposes of the poll, I have capitalised them all, but don't let that put you off!

During searching for a handy reference point I found Fox's article entitled 'Top 50 Text Acronyms Parents Should Know', which is brilliant, but which they may have ripped off from somewhere else.

ETA: If you're going to suggest acronyms please would you tell me what they mean? I have no idea what some of the suggestions stand for!

I actually missed this, and I'm unsure how I managed it - it must have been reported somewhere, but my flist didn't link to it and I didn't see it on the BBC... At any rate, the new designs for the UK's coins have been announced, and I just wondered what people thought!

I have constructed a poll with three questions, two of which were inspired by people talking about Iron Man yesterday. I am just curious to know which of the below films people thinks is the best superhero movie - the films listed are the films I can see in the appropriate Wikipedia entry that I feel are most likely to be picked.

The other question is based on a movie. That movie was called The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and in the runup to the film itself, a comic called Real Life Comics did five comics to mark the occasion. Those five comics were what got me into webcomics, and Real Life is still my favourite as an almost direct result of that. Now, Greg, the writer and artist, offers prints of any comic strip which are signed and sent out to you for $15, so I'm thinking about getting one after the exams. Help me pick!

I booked two tickets (me and a uni friend) to go see Jonathan Coulton in Camden, and I talked to [livejournal.com profile] hawkida today and she's going too! I just need confirmation from [livejournal.com profile] despotliz about something to do with the roomshare at Orbital and then I'm set to book train tickets down to London for the Easter period. The JoCo gig invites the following poll:

[Poll #1096968]

This poll brought to you by the 'not having done English as a subject for two and a half years' gremlin. :)

EDIT: In the comments, it has been noted that according to the OED, 'practice' and 'practise' are acceptable spellings of the verb, but 'practice' is the only good spelling of the noun - thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ang_grrr for finding that one.

So I was wondering who's going to Redemption, and here's a poll about that.

Following a conversation with Hayley [livejournal.com profile] quasi_hayley and another with Richard [livejournal.com profile] archaro, I present to you pollage! )

me: "I thought I'd just say to her at the beginning of the evening 'you look very pretty tonight' and then wait a couple of hours and come in with 'I'm not wearing any underwear today'."
Dave: "Well, try it, then let me know how that goes... I can see you wearing a drink by the end of that night."

Hence, a poll. Dave wants to know how many of my flist think that this is a smooth chatup line, so here we go! )

me: "It's all going downhill."
Dave: "We're at the end of the hill, we're now BASE jumping off!"
me: "We're a bit random sometimes, aren't we?"
Dave: "Just about every time we talk!"
johncoxon: (Zelda)
It is a mark of how much I am looking forward to the latest Zelda game that if I don't get a Wii on launch day, I am seriously considering buying it for GameCube as well and just having two copies. Yes, I know, this is extremely obsessive behaviour, but I can't help it! I've not been this excited about a videogame since, well, the last Zelda game. Or possibly even The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This inspires a poll...

I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] simbagirl and [livejournal.com profile] ___lou___ about fit men, and that prompted a poll... )

Please don't fill it in all 1s if you don't like men sexually/can't find them attractive, because that'd mean you were silly.
johncoxon: (Cybermen)
This is mainly just out of curiosity, but also so I know if I'm going to know anybody at any of the ones to which I'm thinking about going...
