I'm kinda intrigued by Google+. Sling any invites you may have my way, please?

Oh, I forgot to post here, but I got a first-class master's degree in Physics with Astrophysics. Pretty stoked about that!

The fact that people are worried about the LHC actually depresses me. I have a basic knowledge of Physics and the ability to read, so I am not worried. It scares me that there are apparently people I know who don't have either. If you're really worried, however, I advise checking http://www.hastheLHCdestroyedtheearth.com/ regularly.

Or, if you're actually interested in why it won't destroy the Earth, take a look at Wikipedia's article.

CERN Rap

"LHCb sees where the antimatter's gone, ALICE looks at collisions of lead ions. CMS and ATLAS are two of a kind: they're looking for whatever new particles they can find."

This is the chorus of this rap about CERN. It's the most awesome thing I've seen in a very long time.

[livejournal.com profile] lproven posted a link to a bunch of pictures of the LHC, and the comments are like the BBC's "Have Your Say" section. At least half of those people need to be shot due to crimes against reasonable intelligence.

The University of Leicester has a place in the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition this year - an exhibition called 'Exploring the Solar System: Man or Machine?' - the website for which can be found here. After you've had a look at that webpage, if you wanted to, you could fill in a survey on what you think of solar system exploration and the UK's stance on manned spaceflight (I think most of my flist could guess my views on these topics!) by clicking here.

Vatican Says Aliens Could Exist. Also, towards the end of the article, "The Vatican is organising a conference next year to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the author of the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin." Cool! ETA: Although the BBC article mentions 'life on Mars' no other articles on this have any mention of the red planet and I suspect this is due to the Beeb sensationalising the story to get people more interested. Yay for journalists misrepresenting stories to pull in the readers.

I don't know much about the logic behind this, but it's still cool.

Cool!

Planet found with methane on. Yes, it's a big deal.

This article was clearly written by somebody with their head screwed on the right way around. I agree with almost everything in that article, if not everything.
