Claire Brialey won Best Fan Writer which I was lucky enough to present to her, whereas the Drink Tank took it home for Chris Garcia and James Bacon. Great results all around! :D

So I've been totally crap at updating this, which is entirely my own fault. Sorry to all of you who were looking forward to regular updates! I've been diligently writing aspects of my TAFF report in the interim, though, which I suspect is why I haven't been blogging as much as I'd hoped (well, that and not having cellular Internet...not being able to update without Wi-Fi really takes its toll!).

So what have I been doing, I hear you cry? Well, having a fantastic time! I arrived in Toronto on Tuesday evening and spent some time chilling with my excellent hosts, [livejournal.com profile] asfi and [livejournal.com profile] c_crockett. They have been cooking me awesome, awesome food and generally looking after me really well!

I have so far been to St Lawrence Market, the Ontario Science Centre, the Merril Collection, the CN Tower, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and the pub (for a fan meeting!). I have written about 3500 words of my trip report so far, and I'm trying to avoid posting it up here so that when it does arrive it isn't just rehashed material, but I will try to keep you all updated anyway!

The photograph above is of some luminescent rocks that are housed at the ROM. Rather oddly they're almost right next to a really bright lightbulb which makes getting decent photographs quite difficult, but they're still very impressive (as is the rest of the minerals collection!). I really enjoyed today, it was ace!

I was woken at 5am today by a call from Rock Kitchen Harris, a PR firm based in Leicester, inviting me to an interview for the post of PR co-ordinator. Unfortunately they appear not to have seen the bit in my application where I say I'm not free until 29th August, since they've invited me to interview on 11th/12th... Need to load some credit into Skype and call them to see what my options are. Still pretty happy I got an interview though, that's always a nice ego boost.

One last thing. There's a party tomorrow night in order to let me meet lots more Toronto people, and we are setting up a webcam so that non-Torontonians can join in the fun! Just visit my Justin.tv page tomorrow from 7pm EDT (that's 12am BST for Britons).

Til next time!

TAFF

I'm running for TAFF. This is a true fact. However, right now I'm finding it difficult to spare the time to campaign. I have a deadline at university on Monday 24th January and it's proving unbelievably stressful (I am having trouble with insomnia and loss of appetite for the first time).

I've been invited to write articles for two fanzines – Journey Planet and Banana Wings. I've written the first one but I haven't written the second one, which can be up to 3,000 words on anything I want to write about. Since I'm unbelievably stressed I'm having trouble coming up with inspirations for the article (which will almost certainly be towards the shorter end of the scale, rather than the full word limit), I thought I'd throw it out there for you guys – what do you think I should write about?

On a related note, the huge stress is also making me feel unable to campaign properly. I haven't written another Procrastinations yet, although I'm hoping that when this lets up I'll have the time and energy to put into that. On a related note, any submissions from people who would like to write for the fanzine this issue are very, very gratefully received.

Right. Off to finish taking notes on the paper I started earlier, and then I will try to unwind this evening. On the bright side, at least now I'm very sure I don't want to do a PhD...
